How To Exit a Room
The elegant way.
Before you walk away or leave a place, always take a minute to pause and look back.
Have you ever considered how you exit or leave a room? Do you stand up and leave? What exactly do you do?
As a child, I had the opportunity to spend time with a "debonair" Uncle. He was and still is a fine gentleman. He is organized, discerning, well-spoken, tastefully cultured, stylish, and sophisticated. Might I add, he always stole the show when he walked into any room.
I will never forget a particular lunch date he planned for his children, nieces, and nephews. Our lunch date was at the legacy Ikoyi Club. Ikoyi Club was (at that time) the most renowned private member family club in Lagos, Nigeria, with first-class country club facilities and a world-class golf course. We were all excited and could hardly contain ourselves.
After completing our scrumptious meal, we eagerly got up from the table. We were ready to explore all of the recreational activities at the club. As we tried to hurry away, my dear Uncle called us back. He taught us all a lesson I will never forget.
He pulled us close and said, "Before you walk away or leave a place, always take a minute to pause and look back." Curiously and in concert, we all asked, "Why?". He obliged our curiosity and responded, "Looking back helps you see if you left something important behind."
Wow!! I am yet to recover from those words. I think we should agree. There is a lot to draw out from several different angles.
I have since adopted this habit of looking back into my lifestyle and taking it to another level. I have taught my children and those I love to embrace this habit. The reward is invaluable, and if you keep reading, you'll learn how you can do it too!
